Stølstunet Apartments, Beitostølen, Norway – a review

A family stay in the Stølstunet Apartments, Beitostølen, Norway

We travelled to Beitostølen with Crystal Ski for a family ski trip in Norway. We stayed for a week at the Stølstunet Apartments which were self-catering.

As Norway is a fairly expensive country we wanted the flexibility of eating at home whilst having the occasional meal out for a treat. And so these apartments were perfect.

A family stay in the Stølstunet Apartments, Beitostølen, Norway – location

Beitostølen is a small resort and the Stølstunet apartments are at the bottom end of the town. There’s a small shopping centr, with Co-Op supermarket, small clothes store and book store within it, attached to the apartments.

From the outside, the apartments are pretty traditional but inside they are fantastic, modern, well-equipped and very comfortable for a family stay.

We stayed in a three-bedroom apartment. This had a double bedroom with ensuite shower room.

And two bedrooms with bunk beds.

I liked that in one of the rooms the bed at the bottom of the bunk bed was a double so my two youngest slept there.

Bunkbeds

The main part of the apartment was open plan. With a really well-stocked kitchen area including a large fridge freezer, dishwasher and oven.

The dining area which was large and perfect for family meals.

And a comfortable lounge area with large L shaped sofa and tv.

There was also a family bathroom which like the ensuite had heated floors and was a really great size. Clean and modern.

There was also a large balcony with tables and chairs with views over to the hills and trees beyond.

Snowy views

And brilliantly the apartment had a very large boot room. So that as soon as we came in from skiing we could take off all of our snow gear and boots and keep it all out of the main space.

Boot room

This apartment was a great space for us with plenty of room to all relax after we’d come in from the snow. It was very warm and comfortable and I wanted to move in and stare at the views forever.

The Best Bits:

I was worried that coming to Norway in the middle of winter we would be constantly cold. But this apartment was the perfect retreat, always warm and welcoming and the perfect home from home.

I loved the space and the wooden floors everywhere which meant it was easy to keep clean.

Having the large boot room when we came in was great to keep everything snowy out of the main space.

We thought it was a fantastic apartment.

Worth Bearing in Mind:

The apartments, like many Scandinavian self-catering options, don’t have baths which is worth bearing in mind.

Our kids have become used to having showers now and the showers at Stølstunet Apartments were great.

Child Friendly?

Stølstunet Apartments are very child friendly.

They have really nice, high-quality bunk beds and plenty of space for kids to relax in.

We thought it was an ideal family stay in Beitostølen and wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.

Look at that snow, what a wonderful location and they look like beautiful apartments. A great way to stay and explore, with your own facilities it always makes it easier with children.

  2. Sarah Ebner says:

This looks like a lovely place to stay – clean, spacious and very family-friendly. I love staying in apartments on longer stays as it means you can sort out the food and eat when you want (and eat out if you fancy too). It sounds like such a lovely trip.

Yes I love self catering for all of those reasons too. This was so comfortable as well, just the perfect retreat after a day on the snow – perfect! Thanks for commenting.

The apartment looks really modern and well equipped. With apartments you have the best of both worlds you can eat in or out especially with small children.

I’ve never fancied going skiing but I have liked the idea of going somewhere with proper snow and experiencing a Nordic winter.

    • globalmouse says:

There is definitely something about a Nordic winter isn’t there? And the resort offers lots of other activities in addition to skiing including husky dog sledding, horse riding and snow kiting amongst others! I really want to do a cruise of the fjords too! This was a wonderful way to feel a bit more part of the community though and really find out about the way of life in Norway in winter. We loved it!

I’m very jealous of all that snow. We haven’t had any this winter apart from a few showers yesterday while we were out for Mother’s Day!

  6. Oana says:

I read your last review about the trip and found it so appealing that I tried to book but they were fully booked. I would really like the idea of a snow holiday in a place like Norway, will look into it again for next year.xx

    • globalmouse says:

Oh I’m so pleased you liked the look of it Oana. I have been looking at prices too – we all want to return! – and there are some great deals in the run up to Christmas. I don’t know how you feel about taking your kids out of school (we do and actually for skiing I think it really makes sense as the slopes are so much quieter) but if you did the prices then are incredibly reasonable. I can’t recommend it highly enough, we loved it and really hope to return! Let me know if you book 🙂

Looks gorgeous. I love the idea of being warm and cosy and looking through the windows at those views! Really want to go there! x
