What to buy in…Slovenia : Hribar Winter decorative tree

I love to come across products which tell the story of a country and our discovery of one craftsman’s love of working with wood was a lovely way to see something of Slovenia’s artisan history.

In amongst the beautiful settling snow on the slopes of Kranjska Gora were many products from the North-Easterly corner of the country, and the wooden trees of Hriba’ll really stood out to me.

I loved the simplicity of the trees which come in a host of different sizes and can be added to with delightful accessories, all of which have a significance such as this luck charm.

The tree makes a lovely centre piece for a table and with the addition of the candles it’s the perfect Winter decoration. I like the idea that you can add a different candle every few days ahead of Christmas until the tree is complete and I’m sure it’s something my children will love to do with me too.

I really like the way in which the design incorporates wooden boules into the heart of the trees. The boules are a key part of the Hribar products, based on the traditional sport and each one of the boules are unique with their own serial number. It was easy to transport home too with each of the parts slotting into each other and lying flat when disassembled.

Hribar celebrate their country’s love for the game of boule by bringing them into a host of different designs and creating characters around them, including little ski characters complete with bobble hats.

Our tree is a lovely memento of our time skiing in Slovenia with Crystal Ski and will become an important part of our winter decorations.
