Orlando’s Florida Mall is home to the high-end shops, stores and eateries you would expect, but located at one end is something utterly unique in the world of Malls – the Crayola Experience Orlando.
While my children are huge fans of colouring, drawing and all things crayons I did wonder how much fun could be had at a Crayola themed indoor attraction. I needn’t have worried. They were continually entertained from the moment they stepped inside, and we all had some real ‘wow’ moments here.
Much of the attraction is laid out over a huge indoor area in twenty-six different zones. As we arrived we were given a handful of tokens and a bag to collect goodies on the way around (“It’s like trick or treating” said my daughter!).
The visit starts with an experience which won my children (and me) over immediately to the world of Crayola. The ‘Wrap It Up!” attraction gives you the chance to choose one of a number of different coloured crayons all displayed inside an impressive machine, which is then dispensed alongside your own personalised Crayola label. Then it’s off to the labelling machine to attach it to your crayon and hey presto you have your very own personalised Crayola!
From here there’s places to pose in Crayola images and immediately print them out for colouring in, a Crayon Factory theatre show, and areas for toddlers and modelling using their own model magic materials.
We absolutely loved the interactive attractions such as Colour Magic where you can style drawings in whichever colours you like and then scan them into a computer. Right before your eyes these appear on the computer screens and suddenly animate! My children couldn’t believe that their designs could come to life!
There’s also attractions where you can design dresses and suits for virtual catwalk models and even create new car designs.
You can get even more creative with crayons in the Melt and Mould zone where you can heat your crayon and transform it into a brand-new shape, and the equally fun Drip Art attraction where you can heat and spin your melted crayons into wax splatter paintings to take home!
It would be easy to spend half a day here enjoying all of the attractions and including play areas, cafes and the biggest crayon shop we’ve ever visited.
We loved the Crayola Experience and my children really enjoyed the unique ways in which the attraction encourages you to play with crayons in a host of new and imaginative ways.
