We adore Paris, it’s one of our favourite cities. I’ve been coming here since I was five months old. It’s beautiful in all seasons but Spring in Paris has to be the best – with the sweet chestnut trees blossoming and fragrant flowers blooming in the perfectly manicured parks. We were really pleased to have the opportunity to visit Paris as guests of Le Royal Monceau as part of our surprise trip to Paris.
Le Royal Monceau is situated on Avenue Hoch one of the main roads leading away from the Arc de Triomphe. This is a great area in the city, so close to all of the main sights and with the metro stations within an easy walk.
The hotel was built in the 1920s and has around 150 bedrooms, a spa, two restaurants, shops and a 26 metre long swimming pool. As part of the prestigious Raffles Hotel group its interiors are beautifully designed with art work throughout the hotel and plush furnishings. It’s a perfect Parisian hideaway.
Le Royal Monceau, Paris, France – Sleeps:
Le Royal Monceau has everything from doubles up to separate apartments for really discreet stays. We stayed in a junior suite, interconnected with a double. The junior suite had:
A fantastic sized bedroom with seating area, sleeping area and dressing area –
And a bathroom of mirrors with this gorgeous bath –
Food is as you would expect at this World class hotel – really delicious. They have two restaurants and we tried out Le Cuisine for breakfast and dinner.
Breakfast was a wonderful selection of breads and pastries –
Dinner was from La Cuisine’s Spring menu which is all about celebrating the best of French food and enjoying the season.
We loved the starters which come as sharing plates so everyone can have a taste of all the dishes. We tucked into the Spring vegetable selection with a quince dressing, hot asparagus with comte aged cheese, red label salmon gravlax and finally an absolutely gorgeous salad of French mushrooms with a nut garnish.
For our main courses we really enjoyed the marinated black cod with braised black rice –
And a Spring vegetable selection featuring vegetables in every way imaginable – pickled, raw, cooked – all so fresh and full of flavour.
The waiter talked to the children about what they would like to eat and they enjoyed starters of soup and tuna. For their main course they have big bowls of fresh pasta with a homemade tomato sauce –
Le Royal Monceau, Paris, France – The Best Bits:
Le Royal Monceau is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. The size of the rooms was seriously impressive for a city hotel and was a great space for a family. We loved all of the additional touches with high-end products and baths you could soak in all day!
Of particular note is that Le Royal Monceau is most definitely not a stuffy French hotel – it is warm and welcoming and the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable and looked after. You certainly don’t get that from all hotels, even in this high-end tier.
Le Royal Monceau, Paris, France – Worth Bearing in Mind:
Watch out for extra costs. We like a cup of tea in the afternoon but finding no kettle in the room asked if one could be delivered. At €5 with no tea bags or coffee to accompany it this felt a little steep. I’d like to think there would be a coffee machine or at the very least a kettle available to guests.
Le Royal Monceau, Paris, France – Child Friendly?
This is a great hotel for children with welcome gifts on arrival, children’s products in the bathroom and plenty of space to relax in.
The kids loved the swimming pool (which is available to younger guests between 11 and 3) –
And the little booklet from Le Royal Monceau with a treasure trail around the hotel to find facts and details was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon!
Le Royal Monceau also organise art afternoons for kids to get involved in, pizza making classes with their chef and family brunches. They also have their own in-house cinema where guests can request the film to be shown –
But most of all the welcome they received from every member of staff made them really feel that this was a hotel they could relax in and enjoy which allowed us all have a great time there.
