Cheltenham is a town I have a lot of history with, I was there as a student, came back for my first job in journalism and even met Mr Globalmouse there. It’s somewhere I love and wish I visited more often as every time I do I’m filled with cheer. We decided to take a winter trip back, to enjoy some of the parks in the town and show the children some of my old haunts and stayed at the Jurys Inn, Cheltenham.
Jurys Inn, Cheltenham – Hotel and Location:
The Jurys Inn in Cheltenham is some way out of the main town, it’s on the edge of Hester’s Way and next to the GCHQ building. It’s a good place for a break away and as Cheltenham is pretty small it’s really easy to get in to the town for all of the sights.
With 122 rooms the hotel feels quite large and has a restaurant and a whole health complex on site with swimming pool and leisure facilities.
Jurys Inn, Cheltenham – Sleeps:
We stayed in two interconnecting rooms, which is always my favourite way to stay. Each room had a double and a single bed –
The room was a nice size with a desk area, wardrobe, television and there was free WiFi across the whole property.
There was also a nice sized bathroom with bath and shower over,
Jurys Inn, Cheltenham – Food:
We didn’t eat in the restaurant for dinner but we did have breakfast which was a nice enough spread of the usual pastries, cereals and hot items, all served buffet style.
Jurys Inn, Cheltenham – The Best Bits:
I wanted to talk all about the swimming pool and health club facilities here but unfortunately when we visited these were closed for refurbishment.
We enjoyed the hotel as a good base to get out and see Cheltenham and all the sights of the area.
Jurys Inn, Cheltenham – Worth Bearing in Mind:
We did find there was a level of noise from outside the room when we were inside. The kids slept through but both of us were woken up by doors slamming and loud talking during the night. It was Christmas party season when we visited but I think the sound-proofing could be improved.
It’s also worth bearing in mind that there is a charge of £6 for hotel guests to park at the hotel.
Jurys Inn, Cheltenham – Child Friendly?
I think if we had been able to enjoy the pool this would have been brilliantly child-friendly. The hotel did provide activity packs for the kids on arrival which they loved.
