On our two week trip travelling through Florida and Georgia we loved exploring the coastline between the Florida border and Savannah. We stopped off on St Simons Island, about an hour and a half south of Savannah to relax, take day trips to the city and enjoy island life while checking out The King and Prince hotel there.
A family stay at The King and Prince, St Simons Island, Georgia, USA
The King and Prince has been welcoming visitors for over 80 years so it’s fair to say they know how to look after guests. What I love about this resort is it is never standing still, constantly updating and revamping which is good to see. There’s a huge amount going on here with gorgeous swimming pools, tennis courts, golf course, great food and a lovely beachside setting.
The King and Prince, St Simons Island, Georgia, USA – Sleeps:
We stayed in one of The King and Prince’s partial view two bedroom villas which was a great space for a family.
We had a large open space with a lounge with tv and plenty of seating with views on to our little terrace.
This opened on to the kitchen which had everything we needed for a week long stay including utensils, plates, coffee machine, cooker, fridge freezer and washer and dryer.
We had two nice sized bedrooms, the master in particular was a great size with its own tv and doors on to the patio.
There was an ensuite bathroom to the master and a separate family bathroom with some nice products.
The children’s room fit the three of our kids perfectly.
The space worked really well for us and was good for a family.
The King and Prince, St Simons Island, Georgia, USA – Food
We really enjoyed the food at the King and Prince and tried out a number of their dishes on different occasions. It was a shame there weren’t any vegetarian options on the main menu, which to be fair is something we found across the USA, but the chefs were wonderful at creating dishes for me off-menu.
We ate breakfast in the main dining room of ECHO which is a beautiful spot over looking the sea. It would have been nice if there was a breakfast buffet for standard items like pastries and cereal rather than having to order each individual item from the menu. There were some good choices though including peach French toast, pancakes with berries and some great omelettes.
We enjoyed lunch out on the terrace, right by the sea which has to be the nicest spot. We loved the veggie flatbread and fish and chips and the children enjoyed the grilled cheese sandwiches.
We ate dinner a couple of times in ECHO and enjoyed the pimento houmus, tuna steak and some lovely desserts.
I enjoyed the variety of cocktails available, Butter Finger was my favourite and I couldn’t get enough of this creamy, sweet drink.
A family stay at The King and Prince, St Simons Island, Georgia, USA – The Resort
The King and Prince is one of those hotels that as soon as you walk inside you feel relaxed. There are huge glass windows all overlooking the sea and when the temperature dipped it felt cosy with the fire burning and board games to play and when the sun came out it felt like the perfect place to relax.
The pools were wonderful with one heated and a couple of smaller pools which when we visited at the beginning of November were a little too chilly for us, it was great to have the option of the warm pool though.
We didn’t take advantage of the tennis courts or golf course on this trip.
A family stay at The King and Prince, St Simons Island, Georgia, USA – The best bits
We loved the location of The King and Prince, right on the beach meaning we could take lovely wanders across the sand and pick up ‘silver dollars’ and shells and dodge the gentle waves.
It was lovely to sit in the swinging chairs and watch the sun come up across the sea, this really is somewhere to relax and enjoy.
A family stay at The King and Prince, St Simons Island, Georgia, USA – Worth bearing in mind
The King and Prince did feel a little run down in places – there were a few broken tiles, for example – but they seem to be working their way around the property and fixing it as they go. We found the internet to be really glitchy on our first couple of days but by the end of the week it was working fine.
Most of the staff here were absolutely lovely and went out of their way to make us feel more than welcome but we did have a couple of interactions with staff who seemed more brusque and in need of some customer service training.
None of these issues would put us off coming back and we would in a flash.
A family stay at The King and Prince, St Simons Island, Georgia, USA – Child friendly
Definitely, there were children’s menus and the food for them was really great value. Not only that but the main meals came served on frisbees which they thought was amazing.
The pools were well set up for kids and the accommodation perfect for a family stay. There was nothing better than our after-breakfast strolls along the beach as a family.
We loved our time at The King and Prince and look forward to returning.
