There are times when we all need to take time out, to recharge and relax and just take a moment to reconnect. When Malvern Spa invited me for a night of pampering and a spa break with friends I jumped at the chance and it really was an invigorating experience.
I’m going to have to return just to explore more of Malvern which looked beautiful as I pulled in on the train. The quaint rail station felt a million miles away from the hectic pace of school runs and day-to-day routines.
A spa break with friends – Malvern Spa, the perfect Spa Break UK
Malvern Spa is only a seven minute taxi ride from the train station so very easy to get to. I must say I was a little perplexed when we pulled up. I’m not sure what I was expecting but the location on an industrial estate didn’t scream relaxing spa break at me. Don’t panic though, all is most definitely not what it seems on the outside.
Inside, Malvern Spa is an oasis of calm. It has the lovely aroma of spa products and with pretty much everyone wandering around in robes you feel overdressed as soon as you step inside.
I met up with the friends I was having a spa break with, all of us mothers with children who were ready to kick back and relax and enjoy some precious time to ourselves. We headed straight into afternoon tea with added prosecco and let the chat and laughter follow. It was the perfect antidote to a mid autumn slump.
We chatted and ate and chatted some more. It was a wonderful, relaxed environment where we were happy to just enjoy the time with no need to look at watches.
When we’d completely decimated the sandwiches and cakes we headed for the spa. This is where Malvern Spa, quite naturally comes in to its own. The spa area is beautiful and the outside location completely forgotten – you feel completely lost in the surroundings.
The waters here are taken from the spa waters of Malvern which have been renowned for centuries so they feel really special and not full of the chemicals you get at some pools. The water is warm and relaxing and has lots of different areas so you can make your way around the pool, enjoying the different jets. It was the perfect place to really unwind and reminded me a little of the outdoor pools in Iceland with the cool air and hot waters creating the perfect mix.
We tried out the crystal steam room which was wonderfully hot and I felt my skin thanking me.
After a few hours relaxing here it was time to head in to dinner. I loved the food at the Malvern Spa, a rich and indulgent Camembert that three of us shared with tangy caramelised onions and plenty of crackers for dipping followed by a lovely gnocchi with mushrooms in a blue cheese sauce.
After a day of relaxation, catching up, eating, drinking and feeling very merry we headed up to our rooms. I had one of Malvern Spa’s twin rooms which was very comfortable.
I thought the space was great but would have loved some higher-end products in the bathroom to keep that spa feeling going.
Breakfast was a nice spread of pastries, fruit juice and cereal and it was great to be able to order hot food including some veggie sausages and portabello mushrooms.
There were plenty of treatments available but I seem to have spent more time eating and drinking and swimming in the pool. Next time I will definitely spend more time on a facial or massage as the treatment area looked so relaxing.
I really enjoyed my time at the Malvern Spa. It was the perfect break away with friends and very good value for money. We had the opportunity to relax and catch up, it was wonderful to laugh the evening away and the pools are just gorgeous.
