We visited Kranjska Gora on our skiing trip to Slovenia with Crystal Ski to enjoy all the winter sports on offer in this beautiful mountain town. Kranjska Gora is so picturesque and absolutely perfect for families who want to ski and either learn or improve their skiing. We loved our time here and staying in the Vitranc Apartments was ideal as it was right in the centre of everything.
Vitranc Apartments, Kranjska Gora, Slovenia – Hotel and Location:
The Vitranc Apartments are set directly behind the ski slopes of the town. It literally took us a minute to walk from the door to the bottom of the slope so was perfect for getting to ski lessons in the morning. Heading out in the other direction it was about two minutes walk to the supermarket in Kranjska Gora and the same to the bakery. It really was a wonderful location. From the windows we could see the slopes which was just lovely, particularly when the night skiing was on, to leave the curtains open and watch the skiers and snowboarders weave their way to the bottom. I could look out on them for hours…as could the children!
Vitranc Apartments, Kranjska Gora, Slovenia – Sleeps:
The Vitranc Apartments are simple accommodation but they work well, particularly on a skiing trip when the emphasis is being out and about and as much as possible. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment which really worked for us as a family. It had one bedroom which our three children slept in, this had a double bed and a single bed (but the double could easily be separated into two other singles if you needed it to) –
And there was plenty of wardrobe space here for all of our clothes and ski wear.
There was a lounge with various chairs and tv and which also had a dining area within it –
And the sofa bed turned into a double bed in the evening for us which I was initially worried might not be comfortable but I slept really well here. All of the bedding easily stores away in a cabinet under the television.
There was a very small kitchenette off of the dining area which had a fridge, two ring hob and a microwave. It was quite a small space, especially for preparing food, but Mr Globalmouse still managed to whip us up his famous fajitas one evening and a big sausage and lentil casserole another. It was great to have the self catering option to keep costs down and because the supermarket was so close it was easy to nip out and pick up supplies. As Slovenia is so reasonably priced the self catering option worked really well for us.
Then there was a bathroom with shower which had a really small tank of hot water, but enough for one of us to shower and then wait for a bit for it to warm up before the next could shower. This was fine as soon as we realised it as we just timed our showers (although to be honest we were swimming so much that we usually used the showers there – more on that later!).
And there was an entrance way to store all of our boots and coats etc.
We had a small balcony off the lounge with a table and chairs outside which I imagine would be lovely in summer to sit out on. The apartment was very warm which I was so pleased about – it’s always a worry that going to a cold place the apartment could be cold but my hot water bottle stayed firmly in my suitcase! – sometimes in the evening we would open the door for a few minutes of fresh mountain air which was lovely.
Downstairs each room had its own ski lockup which was so handy, we would go down there in the morning in our socks and ski suits and boot up, grab our skis and head out. We stored our sledge in there too and it was a great space to just keep everything when it was all covered in snow after being out on the slopes.
Vitranc Apartments, Kranjska Gora, Slovenia – The Best Bits:
The location of the apartments was absolutely perfect for us – a quick walk to ski lessons in the morning and a quick walk back again for lunch afterwards.
As the Vitranc Apartments are linked to the Ramada hotels we were able to use two of the swimming pools in Kranjska Gora for free and we made really good use of this. We swam every single afternoon after skiing, it was absolutely wonderful to see the kids so unplugged from their electronics. I wouldn’t say we are the sportiest family by any stretch of the imagination so to see them skiing for hours every day and then swimming for a good one to two hours a day too was so good to see. It made the break seem really active and positive and I think if we’d had to pay for swimming we wouldn’t have gone quite so much so for us this was a real benefit.
Vitranc Apartments, Kranjska Gora, Sloveni – Worth Bearing in Mind:
The apartments here are definitely on the old-fashioned side, although not much more than any traditional skiing accommodation where style isn’t top of the bill. It’s functional and on the smaller side but still suited us fine as a family of five.
In all we really enjoyed our stay at the Vitranc Apartments, we found the accommodation worked for us as a family and it was quiet, clean and in a fantastic location.
