Giving Merrell Sandals a work out in Malaysia

When we were planning our trip to Malaysia we knew it would be a really varied trip which would put us and our footwear to the test. The journey was taking us across the country through jungle paths through to exploring deserted beaches, walking through Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur to trekking to see Orangutans. I was really keen to get some footwear which would suit all different occasions, which admittedly was always going to be a tough ask.

The Merrell All Out Blaze Sieve is a brilliant outdoor shoe which really met the challenge well. It is classified as a sandal by Merrell, and it blends all the best bits of a sandal – being light weight, allowing your foot to breath in the hot and humid temperatures while adding in some of the tougher aspects of a hiking shoe.

The upper part is made of leather and fabric with a stretching collar to get the shoe on and off really easily. I loved the quick pull laces which were easy to pull tight, and then simple to loosen and the sole of the sandal was tough enough to clamber over rocks and through the jungle trail where we needed to scramble up rocks and over exposed tree roots. But they were perfectly suited for getting wet, and good sandals for the beach too. Merrell sandals are cushioned inside, so you didn’t really notice which terrain you were on – my feet were snug and cool all the time.

My eldest tried out Merrell’s Hydro Sandal which is designed for children to get exploring the shore line, climbing in and out of rock pools and have specially designed gripping soles – perfect for active kids to clamber over rocky surfaces. These sandals are ‘built for water’ and he loved being able to pull them on and get going. Like my sandals, they were light weight and not at all bulky.

At the end of the day they dried out quickly and were ready to go the next day. I’m delighted that we both found them up the challenge of being a great all round sandal well suited to a variety of testing terrains.

  • They look like the perfect sandals for adventures, and I had something very similar when I went travelling. I will have to check out the website

  • I like that they have a closed toe that’s a really great thing, not just for kids but for slightly clumsy adults too ;).

  • These look perfect for hiking around, that’s the downside to other sandals I find, they look good and are great in summer and beaches but walk anywhere bumpy, stony or woody and they just don’t work.
I’ll be checking these out for Harry
