We love coming together as a family at the weekends, when we can take some time to look back on a busy week for each of us and be excited about the week ahead. Family time is so important and I always feel that sharing a meal is the perfect way to be together and there’s something about going out for it that means we focus so much more on each other.
We recently stopped into Frankie & Benny’s at Bristol Aspects Leisure Park where the menu has undergone a bit of a transformation. There’s still a great selection of classic American and Italian dishes, alongside a number of new options including vegetarian starters, a refreshed kids menu and desserts which made my children’s eyes pop out.
We kicked off our meal with fully loaded skins filled with cheddar and topped with chives and a separate plate of mozzarella sticks. The dishes while simple were really tasty and popular with all the family.
Each of the starters, of which many were vegetarian so worked for all the family, were really generous and the introduction of sharing plates like the dough balls were perfect. My garlic cheesy mushrooms was also a great sized dish packed with flavour.
It’s great to see how the restaurant has worked to improve its offering to families, with lots of options on the kids menu and some resources to keep them entertained too.
My eldest has a real love for fish and chips at the moment and he was delighted when he was presented with this generous plate. He has become a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to fish and chips and this got the thumbs up from him.
My goat’s cheese pizza from the mains’ menu was reasonable but unlike some of the other dishes we tried not especially tasty, however my daughter was more than happy with her pizza duo which came with fries and beans.
The kids menu has a good number of reasonably priced sides too, and it’s good to see there are gluten free menus for both grown ups and children too, making selection even easier.
The desserts were a truly stand out moment from the meal for all of us too. Often an after thought at many restaurants, these finished off our family gathering on a real high point, with tasty dishes like this cinnamon waffle crunch, perfect to share with an americano on the side.
There are some great surprises on the kids’ menu too with this mini strawberry freakshake, part dessert, part shake with a mini doughnut on the top. It was nice to see that there were plenty of options which went against usual expectations.
