Giggling Squid – A great Thai restaurant Bath

A restaurant to put a smile on your face - Giggling Squid - Thai restaurant, Bath - copyright: www.globalmousetravels.com

The Giggling Squid is a beautiful restaurant and really close to the main high street.

The food here is fantastic, with truly delicious Thai meals including one of the best Massaman curries I’ve had.

There were some great meals for kids, to get them in to trying some great tastes from a veggie pad thai to lots of curries.

They have lots of desserts too, the muddled berry cheesecake was delicious.

Joya Italian – The best restaurants in Bath

mushroom and goats cheese

Joya Italian is the sweetest Puglian restaurant which serves delicious food.

Close to Pulteney Bridge it is a small rstaurant but always busy so well worth booking ahead for. The food here is delicious with classics from southern Italy. And it is family friendly with small portions available for kids to have too.

This is somewhere to come and linger over wonderful food and the best ambience.

Dough Bath – restaurants in Bath for all the family

The best Italian Restaurant Bath has seen? Dough Pizzeria, Bath - copyright: https://globalmousetravels.com

Tucked away down one of Bath’s little side streets in the centre of Bath, Dough has a whole variety of different bases. These include a classic sourdough right through to hemp, turmeric or even seaweed and also a whole variety of gluten free versions.

Situated in The Corridor in the heart of Bath’s centre it feels tucked away but still in the hustle and bustle of the city.

Alongside some great pizzas there are other dishes here from gnocchi to fish making it a great Italian for all the family.

The Mint Room

This contemporary Indian restaurant on Lower Bristol Road offers something a little more special than the usual family dining experience, and when we visited, we decided to try their Indian High Tea Menu which turned out to be a wonderfully indulgent way to spend an afternoon together.

Rather than the traditional sandwiches and cakes you might expect from an afternoon tea, the Mint Room puts an Indian twist on the whole idea, with a selection of savoury bites, sweet treats and a jug of warming masala chai to share.

The savoury selection included a Mehekti Anjeer Scone, a buttery scone studded with dried figs and Indian spices, alongside a Shahi Masaldar Scone with cheese and a gentle masala kick. There were also plenty of more traditional Indian flavours, including crispy red onion pakora, lentil vada spiced with curry leaves, onion and chillies, and for meat eaters there’s also Butter Kheema Crunchwich – a crisp toasted sandwich filled with spiced minced meat and layers of creaminess. The Kolkatta Kathi Luxe, a flaky roll filled with a rich spiced spinach and corn filling, was another great addition.

And then came the sweet bites, which were as tasty as they looked The Sona Bhoondhi Fudge combined cardamom-scented caramelised gram flour pearls with creamy white chocolate fudge, while the Gulabi Gajar Macarons were filled with slow-cooked carrot halwa, saffron, cardamom and pistachios. The Jamun Noorani, fried milk dumplings served with saffron and rose syrup and rabdi cream, rounded things off beautifully.

The Mint Room Bath

Of course, no Indian High Tea would be complete without chai and the jug of masala chai was perfect for sharing, infused with milk, ginger and cardamom. If you are visiting Bath with teenagers who enjoy trying new foods and flavours, The Mint Room has created something that takes the familiar idea of afternoon tea and turns it into something completely its own, making it a memorable addition to a family visit to Bath.

Turtle Bay

Turtle Bay restaurant, Bath review - Caribbean inspired flavours for all the family

Turtle Bay is one of the most relaxed restaurants out there with a really cool, colourful vibe.

The food here is great (our favourite, an Aubergine curry which was spicy and full of flavour). There’s a dedicated children’s menu – the dips and dippers were the smallest of portions but the Turtle wraps were much better value.

There are colouring sheets, little board games to play and some tasty desserts.

Ole Tapas

A slice of Spanish delight - Ole Tapas restaurant in Bath

If you fancy some Spanish tapas in your life then look no further than Ole Tapas.

This restaurant is tucked away and not one you’re likely to stumble upon. When you do find it though you won’t want to leave, it has a colourful, happy vibe which despite its small size creates a brilliant atmosphere.

The food here is amazing and perfect to share (making it great if you’re visiting with kids).

There’s plenty for vegetarians and so much choice you’re sure to find something you’ll love (and likely lots). We love this restaurant.

Thaikhun Bath

Tuk tuk

This is a great restaurant for all the family with plenty of space to relax and a great kids menu alongside the main adult menu.

The food here is great from delicious sweetcorn fritters to curries and stir fries.

If you like Thai food this is a really good choice, in the centre of the city and quite a fun, informal restaurant.

Lunch in Bath

There are lots of great places to stop for lunch in the city as it’s so compact that many of the great restaurants are close to the centre or easy to get to. All of the restaurants above will work for a lunch stop. On top of these I enjoy Comptoir Libanais if I am meeting friends. Or The Cosy Club is also a great space to meet which is very family friendly. For a cheap but great, quick lunch Chaiwalla consistently comes out top for its amazing street food.

Vegan restaurant in Bath

There are some great vegan restaurants in Bath but all of the restaurants above have plant-based food available.

If you are looking for a specific vegan restaurant in Bath I have eaten very well at The Green Rocket Cafe which is right in the centre. Alongside fantastic main courses also has great vegan cake (they’re also brilliant for breakfast too).

Oak always comes highly recommended.

Italian restaurants in Bath

Bath has some fantastic Italian restaurants.

Our favourite is most definitely Joya Restaurant (see above), which is packed full of Puglian charm with great food in a beautiful setting. It’s a more formal restaurant but still very family friendly.

For pizzas we love Dough (also see above) and we have had some great meals at The Real Italian Pizza Company in the city.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our suggestions and found somewhere great to eat in Bath, it’s a city full of wonderful restaurants so you will be spoilt for choice. Why not check out our top things to do in Bath for kids (but which adults will love too).
