We love our trips to London with kids. The history, the shops, the beautiful parks. Every time we visit I am reminded how much it truly is the best city in the world. For our latest family city break, we wanted a base that allowed us to step straight into the city, while still giving us space to unwind at the end of long, full days. Our stay at Apex City of London hotel delivered exactly that. Travelling as a family of five in a city like London can be a balancing act. Space matters. Comfort matters. And location can make or break the experience. This stay managed to get all three just right, creating a city break that was wonderful. Location – in the historic heart of London
One of the things we really enjoyed about this hotel was its location. Tucked into a calm pocket of the City, it manages to feel peaceful while being moments away from some of London’s most iconic sights.
Within just a few minutes’ walk, you’ll find yourself at the Tower of London – one of the city’s most famous landmarks, steeped in nearly a thousand years of history. It’s one of my favourite places in the city and just so beautiful.
A little further along the river sits Tower Bridge, instantly recognisable and always impressive, no matter how many times you’ve seen it before. It’s a lovely walk from the hotel along to it.
Also really close by is the Monument to the Great Fire of London – a fascinating stop that offers both history and, for those willing to climb, incredible views across the city.
For a family trip, this location made everything feel easy. We could head out early, explore at our own pace, and dip back to the hotel whenever we needed a break.

First impressions – Apex City of London hotel
City hotels can sometimes feel a little worn around the edges, especially in busy areas. That wasn’t the case here at all.
From the moment we walked into the lobby, everything felt fresh, calm and well cared for.
We really loved the space which just felt like an oasis after busy London.
Our family room setup
Finding accommodation that works for five people isn’t always straightforward.
We opted for interconnecting rooms, which worked perfectly for us.
The rooms themselves were really generously sized, with large, comfortable beds that everyone immediately sank into at the end of the day. What really stood out, though, was the addition of a separate lounge area.
We loved this space to relax at the end of a day sightseeing. It included a sofa bed, which worked well for our third child, and gave us somewhere to sit, chat and unwind without all being perched on beds.

What really sets a stay apart are the small details – the things you didn’t necessarily expect but quickly come to appreciate.
Here, there were plenty.
Fluffy robes waiting in the room, a Nespresso machine (a welcome sight each morning and, if we’re honest, mid-afternoon too), and the toiletries were not only high quality but lovely to use.
The bathrooms
One feature that really stood out, and is surprisingly rare in city hotels, was the presence of both a bath and a separate shower in every bedroom.
After hours spent walking through London’s streets, museums and riverside paths, having a proper bath to come back to was so nice. There’s something really relaxing about being able to soak and reset before heading out again the next day. I love my baths so this was a real treat.
For families, it’s also practical. It gives you options, especially when travelling with children of different ages.
Food at Apex City of London hotel
We didn’t dine at the hotel in the evenings, but we did have breakfast there each morning, which was lovely.
Breakfast
The setup strikes a really nice balance. There’s a buffet spread where you can help yourself to juices, pastries, cereals, cheeses and more – ideal for those mornings when everyone wants something slightly different.
Alongside that, there’s also a hot menu you can order from, which was so nice.
The children were immediately won over by the pancakes, which became a daily request. Light, fluffy and exactly what you want on a city break morning.
For me, the vegan breakfast stood out. It’s not always easy to find plant-based options that feel well put together rather than an afterthought, but this was really tasty – full of flavour.
Facilities
While this isn’t a sprawling resort-style hotel, it has everything you need for a comfortable city stay.
There’s a well-equipped gym for those who want to fit in a workout, and the communal areas, especially the lobby, are nice to hang out in.
What’s nearby – London at your doorstep
One of the biggest advantages of staying at the Apex City of London hotel is how much you can do without relying heavily on transport.
Stepping outside the hotel places you right into one of London’s most historic areas. The blend of old and new architecture, the proximity to the river, and the sense of history all around you is lovely.
We really enjoyed being able to wander towards the Thames in the early evening, watching the light shift across the skyline, or heading out early before the crowds arrived at the major landmarks.
