Festive delights for all the family at The Snowman Peacock Theatre, London – a review.

A highlight of the year for me is our festive weekends in London with kids in the run up to Christmas.

There’s something about being in this beautiful city at this time of year that just makes me feel all warm inside.

We do it every year, plan a trip which includes a visit to Father Christmas, seeing the lights, a spot of ice skating, family meal and taking in a show.

This year we decided to see The Snowman, Peacock Theatre.

The Peacock Theatre, London

It was our first trip to the Peacock Theatre which is right in the heart of London’s theatreland. And a great location for taking in a show in the city.

We weren’t sure what to expect from the stage show of The Snowman.

It’s a story we all love and Christmas simply isn’t Christmas without us sitting down to watch it, but would it translate to the stage?

The layout of the theatre was great. Even though we were fairly far back we had a really good view.

What we thought of The Snowman Peacock Theatre, London – a review

From the moment the show started my five-year old son was spellbound.

He sat forward in his chair, eyes never moving from the stage as the characters came to life in front of us.

Given there is basically no talking in the whole production it’s no mean feat to capture a young child’s attention so completely.

Snowman

The show skipped merrily along. We watched in delight as the Snowman danced around the set with the boy by his side, investigating the human way of life. Trying on clothes, snowbathing in front of the freezer and teasing the house cat.

There was a slightly surreal moment when giant fruit in the form of a pineapple, banana and apple came dancing out of the fridge. And there were beautiful moments with some wonderful ballet too.

And then the Snowman and the boy took to the skies and flew in the sky accompanied with a track of Aled Jones and the live theatre orchestra.

It was a great moment and a suitable highlight of the show.

Our conclusion

In all we thought this was a wonderful performance. Perfectly pitched at the family market and ideal for our festive trip to London.

It really couldn’t be much more Christmassy if it tried.
