London in early summer is just beautiful with balmy days and beautiful skies. It’s the perfect time to be in the city before the tourists of high summer arrive. If you hit it right, when the sun shines and the temperature soars it can feel like the most wonderful time. It’s uplifting and invigorating and full of promise. We had a great family stay in London with kids at the Hilton London Metropole Hotel where all those elements came together for a perfect weekend in the city.

Location – Hilton London Metropole Hotel

The Hilton London Metropole is situated on the bustling Edgware Road on the edge of Paddington. This is an area I love, it’s colourful and vibrant and full of restaurants nearby.

The hotel itself is very large. Over a thousand bedrooms situated in different wings, a number of restaurants, shops and leisure facilities.

It really is a great space with lots to do within the hotel itself, so perfect when travelling to the city with kids.

Hilton London Metropole – Sleeps

We stayed in one of the hotel’s family rooms which are a great space for a family of five.

We had a main bedroom which had two queen size beds.

There was then a sofa and desk at the end which converted in to another bed.

The room was a great space in terms of size and a really good price for families travelling to London.

There was a nicely sized bathroom filled with lovely products – although non disposable toiletries are my favourite which would be a great change for Hilton to make.

There was wifi in the room if you joined up to Hilton Honors which is free to join.

Food

We ate every morning in the main restaurant in the hotel which had a fantastic spread of buffet food.

We loved that there were vegetarian sausages on offer and lots of hot items including pancakes and an egg station.

The pastries were particularly good and the children loved the kids’ corner which came with hot chocolates and doughnuts.

I was disappointed there weren’t fresh fruit juices but loved the amount of fruits and interesting foods on offer. We certainly filled up well at breakfast.

We also had dinner at the Fiamma restaurant which has a really good selection of Italian foods.

Best of all the kids could take part in a pizza making session with the chef which they really enjoyed.

The hotel has its own pizza oven which it cooked its sourdough pizzas in. I loved that the kids had the opportunity to do this and create their own favourite pizzas.

For our dinner I had a nice rigatoni with onions, asparagus and blue cheese and Mr G had a grilled sea bass with chillies and a coriander and clam risotto which he thought was delicious.

Hilton London Metropole Hotel – The Best Bits

We really liked the location of the Hilton London Metropole. We didn’t wander out to it this time but it was good to know that Oxford Street was just a 10 minute walk away.

The hotel felt central and in an area of London we really like.

Worth Bearing in Mind

Parking at the hotel is very expensive so it’s best to chance your luck nearby – which is also pretty pricey.

We found some on street parking that stopped charging at 6.30pm on a Friday but most of it went until 6.30 on a Saturday. If you’re driving up it’s worth costing this in to your stay.

Child Friendly?

The Hilton London Metropole is very child friendly and the kids loved it, from the pizza making class to their own table of goodies at breakfast there was plenty to keep them feeling happy.

Their absolute favourite bit was the pool though and it’s a real treat to stay in a London hotel with its own indoor pool. The swim times went until 9.30 pm so the children loved being able to have a pre-bedtime swim which was a great way to burn off any excess energy and for them to wind down.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay at the Hilton London Metropole. It’s a great hotel for families, particularly with the family rooms which will sleep five. I think it’s a great price for everything it offers.

It would certainly be a hotel we would look to return to for another trip to London.
