There’s something about the food from sun-drenched Greece that is just so evocative. Full of warmth and sunshine and sweetness. Much of it contains honey (meli) which Greece is renowned for and this certainly adds to its appeal. This dish, Meliasti is like a plateful of one of the islands in summer. With the saltiness of the Greek feta smoothed by the sticky sweetness of the honey and the added sesame giving it a little earthiness. It’s the perfect combination and I could eat it all day long, bringing back memories of our trip to Rhodes with kids and making me long to return.

We love this recipe as it’s pretty straightforward to put together but is delicious and sophisticated enough for a dinner party. It’s equally great as a treat when you just need a blast of Greek sunshine in your life.
Ingredients:
(This is for two people – double the recipe for a family)
- 200g Greek feta
- 2 sheets filo pastry
- 1 tbsp red wine vinegar olive oil
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
Making Meliasti – what to do:
- Cut the feta into 4 equal size pieces about 1 cm thick. Make sure it isn’t wet (you can always dab it with kitchen towel to help to dry it out).

- Cut the filo pastry into 4 pieces (1 for each piece of feta) brushing each one with olive oil. Fold the filo pastry in half.
- Place a piece of feta onto the middle of the filo pastry and wrap into a parcel.
- Repeat with each piece of feta.
- Heat the olive oil in a pan – to around half a centimetre depth at the bottom of the pan. Wait for the oil to be hot.
- Fry the feta parcels until golden brown on each side.
- Remove parcels and dry on kitchen towel to remove excess oil.
- Heat the honey, red wine vinegar and water in a pan until the mixture is boiling and the honey has dissolved.
- Place feta pieces into a dish.
- Drizzle honey mixture liberally over feta pieces.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds on top and serve while hot and serve with a Greek salad on the side.

Wow I LOVE feta so would really like these. I’ve never tried to cook anything Greek before but am very tempted! I wish the kids could try but they are dairy free.
My dad regularly host different dinner parties but I never go! I’m quite funny with food and if I don’t know the name, I won’t try it! I’ve just started doing food/restaurant reviews myself, I’m going to have to try some Greek food now as the honey, cheese and sesame looks like it’s worked really well together! x
