A family stay at the Grand Imperial Agra, India

Grand Imperial Agra

Agra is chaotic and colourful. Of course the highlight is a visit to The Taj Mahal but there are plenty of other sites to enjoy in this interesting city. The Grand Imperial Hotel Agra is a tranquil retreat from the busy streets and tourist filled sites. On our family trip to India with kids we checked in for a few nights stay.

The Grand Imperial Hotel is over a hundred years old and you can feel the history in every corner. The rooms are large and grand and have an air of a time past.

It’s a beautiful hotel with covered walkways and lovely little details throughout which give you a glimpse into its former life.

Facilities

The Grand Imperial Agra has some lovely grounds at the front of the hotel with seating and colourful birds flying over. There are also monkeys walking around the tops of the walls surrounding the hotel which the children loved to see.

At the back of the hotel is a swimming pool which was being renovated when we visited.

There’s a really well priced restaurant and plenty of space to relax around the hotel.

Sleeps

We stayed in one of their double rooms which was on the ground floor and opened onto the gardens at the front and the swimming pool at the back.

We had a lovely large bedroom with four poster bed. There was some lovely period furniture doted about too which added to the luxury feel.

The hotel brought in three single begs for the children which the room could more than take as it was a large space

We also had a small seating area – where one of the children’s beds was placed.

The bathroom was also a big size with shower and separate bath. The water pressure was good and it was nice to have a large bathroom.

There was a kettle and television in the room. The wifi was a little patchy but worked well enough for what we needed.

We were really comfortable in this room and the iar conditioning worked very well at keeping us cool when we returned from a trip out sightseeing.

Food

We really enjoyed breakfast at The Grand Imperial Hotel Agra. There was a good selection of pastries and cereals and lots of watermelon to enjoy too.

We loved the egg chef who also whipped up my favourite – masala dosas which were great.

This was a good spread to set us up for the day.

We also ate dinner on one of the evenings and loved the different curries on offer. The paneer tikka and dahl makhani in particular were delicious. There are plenty of western choices too if that’s what you’d prefer.

The Best Bits of The Grand Imperial Agra

We really enjoyed staying in a heritage hotel. It was wonderful to feel the history throughout the building.

The hotel also put on some entertainment with a traditional puppet show being one of the evenings offerings. We absolutely loved this, it was a fun and colourful display.

The children all bought some of the puppets to take home which was a lovely reminder of the trip.

We also loved the lady who came around doing henna designs. My 14 year old daughter and I both had her designs which we thought were beautiful.

The hotel is a good distance to get in to the main sights of the Taj Mahal and Taj Fort.
