Novotel Hotel Birmingham Airport – Hotel Review

Novotel Hotel Birmingham Airport – Hotel Review

We always like travelling from Birmingham airport. It has great flights out to some amazing locations but it isn’t as sprawling as some of the London airports. This is our review of the Novotel Hotel Birmingham Airport which is right on site and perfect if you’ve got an early morning flight or are arriving late. We stayed with kids so this is a family focussed review.

The best rule I have learned about travelling with kids is give yourself more time to get to where you’re going. Rushing for a plane, boat or train with luggage and little ones is never a great way to start a break.

It’s always easy to underestimate how much time you might need too. I’ve learned from experience that giving yourself more time to travel always has a direct relation to the levels of stress you might feel.

Hotel and Location:

You can’t really beat the location of the Novotel Hotel Birmingham Airport. It gives you all the space you need to relax and prepare for your next adventure.

The hotel is right in the heart of the Airport complex. It is less than one minute walk from the entrance to departures.

It’s also connected to the National Exhibition. Centre and the railway network, via the Skyrail. This runs around the airport.

You can drive up and drop off your luggage at the door.

The Novotel is a chic modern styled hotel with a really chilled and cosmopolitan atmosphere. There are smart touches throughout the hotel which make the stay even more enjoyable.

Sleeps

We stayed in a family room at the hotel. It was a really generously sized room.

Bedroom at the Novotel in Birmingham Airport

The children loved their gifts on arrival which were given to us at reception.

Gifts

The beds were really comfortable. And considering the location, right opposite the airport, it was amazingly quiet and peaceful.

The rooms have black-out curtains too. When we realised that we needed to print off a boarding card at the last minute, the hotel staff couldn’t have been more helpful and made sure we had it quickly.

Food at Novotel Hotel Birmingham Airport

The Elements restaurant has a great atmosphere and a good mix of meals for adults and children.

There’s a separate children’s menu with all the classic kids’ dishes you could want. For adults there are lots of choices too, depending on whether you’re looking for a light meal ahead of a flight or something more substantial.

Fish and chips

There’s a really good mix of seating for everyone with larger tables for groups and even small tables if you’re travelling on your own. ,There are also TV screens for catching up on the latest news and sports.

With a great children’s menu and a really wide selection of main courses and desserts for grown-ups, we were really pleased with the food on offer.

Breakfast was equally good with a lovely selection of hot and cold food. It made for a perfect start to our getaway.

Breakfast at the Novotel Birmingham Airport

The Elements restaurant is open until late and of course, opens early too. This allows holidaymakers to get a good breakfast before heading off to check-in.

Worth Bearing in Mind

While you can drive up to, and drop off at The Novotel, it isn’t possible to park at the hotel.

If you book ahead there’s the chance to use the airport’s on-site meet and greet services. There is also ample parking at the airport which is a short bus drive away.

Child Friendly?

The Novotel Hotel Birmingham Airport really made us feel welcome as a whole family.

From the arrival when we received gifts, to the special menus and spacious family rooms.

There is also a play area for children. It all helped make for a relaxing stay and got our holiday off on the right note.

  3. Great tips at the start, I advise people to do that anyway regardless of children! This is such a great write up, love it! The hotel sounds pretty decent, normally at airport hotels you have them charging you for wifi and stuff like that, little things really are important.

    1. Thank you! And I agree, as much time as you can give yourself the better (and that’s spoken from very bitter and stressed out experience!!). It really was a lovely hotel – and a great start to our holiday! Thank you for reading and commenting!

  4. Staying in a hotel near an airport the night before DEFINITELY beats rushing for a plane! There is nothing more stressful than being late for a plane – said by a woman who nearly missed the plane for her honeymoon after getting lost on the way to an airport. Horrible way to start a holiday!

    1. Oh no, you nearly missed your honeymoon??! That’s terrible!! I’m glad you got there in the end. We nearly missed a plane a few years ago too…and running to the gate carrying my baby in a car seat was just a horrible way to start a holiday. Thank you for reading and commenting!

  10. It’s refreshing to read a positive review on a Novotel hotel especially after our only experience at this chain was probably the worst we have ever had at the Novotel Brisbane Airport in Australia last year. But this just proves that not all hotels within a chain can be treated the same and I am glad that you found a convenient spot in close proximity to the airport which is always crucial when you have an early morning flight or you are arriving on a late night flight into the airport and just want to go straight to bed rather than having to catch a taxi or drive miles to a hotel.
