Our week in Branas, about five and a half hours north of Stockholm, was filled with so many delights. It had all the perfect Scandinavian charm we love. We adore skiing in Sweden, there’s the crisp, sweet, fresh air, beautiful snow, quiet pistes, friendly people and interesting food. Skiing in Branäs ski resort meant we spent so much of the week outside, in the fresh air. For the first time we skied at Easter meaning milder climates but still flurries of snow. If you’re looking for a quiet, simple resort with landscapes to marvel at, then Branas is for you.

Getting to Branäs ski resort
Branas is five and a half hours drive from Stockholm. It’s actually slightly closer to Oslo Airport which is also a possibility.
We flew to Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport and hired a car from there.
The drive was actually beautiful and we loved stopping off at the little town of Ludvika. We stopped for amazing burgers at the Sybilla and found a huge ICA Supermarket where we stocked up on staples for the week, including lots of veggie food.
Then it was on to Branäs, tucked away up in the hilltops.
A week skiing at Branäs ski resort
Branas Ski Resort is a gorgeous centre, filled with easy to moderate runs. It’s a great place for a family to ski together.
We were in Branäs in Easter and found the runs quiet and no queues for the ski lifts which is always a bonus.
For children
Children will love the Mario themed ski area. Here they can spot their favourite mascots hidden in the snow and zoom through pipes – just like the Nintendo character.
There are also fire pits and benches nearby for a quick refreshment stop for little ones.
While you ski you will also come across the area’s two mascots, adorable squirrels. They pop up for photo opportunities and have a few shows in the centre of the resort.
Staying at Soltorget Branäs
We stayed in one of Branäs’s apartments, in block C. Right in the centre of the resort it was ski in and ski out which was a huge benefit.
The apartment was really comfortable with three bedrooms and a large kitchen / diner / lounge space.
It was perfect for us to be self catering and keep the costs down.
In the basement of the building was also a free to use washing machine and tumble drier. This was also where the boot room was which meant we could store our skis.
Inside the apartment we also had a drying cupboard to keep all our kit warm.
Skiing in Branäs Ski Resort
Skiing in Branäs was wonderful for all the family.
Mornings would be spent taking the long ski run to the bottom where there were more shops and restaurants. It was lovely to watch the children so confident on their skis.
There were little fire pits dotted about where families would be cooking up their sausages for lunch.
In the afternoon we would head back out to take in the Mario run and take some of the chair lifts to other areas.
This isn’t a large resort but there was plenty to keep us occupied for the week.
Facilities
There is everything you could need in Branäs including a lovely ski and clothing shop and a small grocery shop.
We took a few trips down the hill – it’s about a fifteen minutes drive – to the slightly larger supermarkets where we picked up more supplies.
If you didn’t want to leave the resort you wouldn’t have to though.
Finishing off in Stockholm
We finished our time in Stockholm with a couple of days to take in the sites. We ate more cinnamon buns and wandered through the old town which is just so picturesque.
It was the perfect way to end our week skiing in Branäs, with a little culture and sights of the city.
