Al Bustan Palace is just outside of the main city, but only a 10 minute drive into the centre. It sits on the beach facing the Gulf of Oman with numerous swimming pools across its beautiful palm filled grounds.

Al Bustan is a Ritz-Carlton Hotel and deserves every one of its five stars. It’s in a dramatic location, with the Hajar mountains dominating one side and the sea the other.

There are 250 rooms and suites and at the centre of the hotel is the huge golden, chandelier filled dome with various wings stretching away.

That the Sultan of Oman used Al Bustan Palace for his guests including Kings and Queens from around the world, until he built a guest house near to his palace, tells you about the level of quality and attention to detail at this hotel.

A fantastic hotel in Muscat for families – Al Bustan Palace Hotel Muscat Oman – Sleeps:

We stayed in one of Al Bustan Palace’s Junior suites which is a great size although maybe a little tight for a family of five. The room had a gorgeous bedroom with large bed –

Double bed

There was a sitting area which we managed to squeeze three extra beds into, and a large, lovely bathroom with bath and separate shower alongside a dressing area with some lovely Asprey products which felt really luxurious.

Bathroom

There was a lovely balcony and chairs to sit on and look out over the pools and relax –

We thought the room was lovely and the views gorgeous. I know Al Bustan Palace are undergoing extensive renovations at the moment so I’m really excited to see how these get even better.

Food:

We loved the food at Al Bustan Palace and thought it was of a really high standard.

Breakfast in Al Khiran Terrace was a wonderful spread with fresh juices, breads and pastries and cereals, alongside hot food stations and egg chefs.

Breakfast

We spent the longest time at breakfast as it looked out over the pools and to the Sea of Oman beyond and there was just so much amazing food.

Breakfast

We were on a half board basis at Al Bustan Palace and on our first night we went to Al Khiran Terrace which is their buffet restaurant and had a lovely feast of stir fries, spring rolls and other Chinese themed foods. There was plenty of other bits alongside the theme but I liked how each night the restaurant focused on a different cuisine.

Dinner

We also ate at the Beach Pavilion which was a truly magical meal. Sat out on chairs, our feet in the sand and gentle coloured lights on each of the tables, it was a wonderful place to enjoy a meal. The food here was fantastic – goats cheese with seasonal leaves, an Omani egg salad and butternut squash ravioli. The food was outstanding and the setting perfect.

It was such a lovely meal in a really special setting – one of those occasions to remember for a long time.

The Best Bits:

We all absolutely loved the swimming pools at the hotel and spent the longest time just relaxing in them, playing and cooling off. The main pool outside the Al Khiran restaurant was a particular favourite as it was shaded by 12 palm trees in the middle of it! We had so much fun in this pool and spent hours one afternoon just splashing about here.

The hotel really felt an oasis of calm and it was wonderful to come back to after a morning spent haggling for Frankincense at the Muttrah souk and be enveloped in to the tranquility of Al Bustan Palace. We felt so relaxed at this hotel.

Child Friendly?

We found the Al Bustan Palace to be incredibly child friendly. Our children were warmly and genuinely welcomed wherever we went and there were kids menus in the restaurants. There was a child’s pool but they were more than welcome in the large regular pools.

When we arrived there was a tipi set up in the room which the kids thought was the best thing ever.

As a family we loved our stay at Al Bustan Palace, it’s up there with our favourite hotels ever. The setting, warm welcome, fantastic food and wonderful ambiance all just comes together to create a perfect experience. We loved Al Bustan Palace and can’t wait to return.
