Mövenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi Marrakech – review

Our family trip to Morocco was filled with colour and an awakening of all the senses. And none more so than in Marrakech, the liveliest, loudest, most fun city on our travels. Luckily we had a perfect family stay booked in with a luxury hotel in Marrakech and checked in to the Mövenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi Marrakech, just outside of the main city walls. The Mövenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi Marrakech is a large hotel with just over 500 rooms but it never felt busy.

The accommodation is set in 7 different buildings around the picturesque grounds. This means there’s plenty of space for everyone and never loses its calm.

The hotel is named after Ahmed Al Mansour Eddahbi, Sultan of the Saadian dynasty. He did so much for Marrakech and like all Mövenpicks are named after great people, this hotel is themed after him.

As Ahmed Al Mansour Eddahbi travelled to places including Timbuktu and sought out an oasis wherever he visited, the hotel celebrates this throughout with fountains, pools and ornamental water features everywhere.

The main reception is beautiful and has a huge golden droplet suspended and surrounded by tea lights. A theme which is followed throughout the resort.

This really is a beautiful luxury hotel in Marrakech.

Sleeps

We stayed in one of the Mövenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi Marrakech suites which was a wonderful space for a family.

There was a large central lounge area with sofas, lovely comfortable and arty chairs and a desk area. This was the perfect place to come together to all hang out.

Off of this main space was two almost identical bedrooms which were absolutely lovely.

They contained the main bedroom area with one of the most comfortable beds ever, we slept so well here.

In the children’s room they brought in an extra bed for our third child.

Then there was a truly sumptuous bathroom with roll top bath which was so lovely to sink into. As well as a gorgeous rain forest shower.

The products used are Arganine which include Moroccan Argan oil which smell so lovely.

There was also a dressing room with so much space to unpack. And there was another separate washroom and lots of patio space to sit outside and relax.

We thought the suite was absolutely perfect for a family with enough room for everyone to spread out and relax after a day spent exploring the souks.

Food

Saray Restaurant

We ate in the Saray restaurant every day for breakfast which was a wonderful spread of pastries, fruits and cereals.

There was an egg chef whipping up custom made omelettes and a whole table of healthy options of salads.

There were fruit juices, traditional ful medames and harira soup. Everything you would expect from a luxury hotel in Marrakech.

My favourite parts of breakfast were the little individual chefs.

There were two women sat to one side with bowlfuls of traditional Moroccan pancakes (which are delicious and different to American or British versions), big jugs of honey and then making up traditional mint tea.

Outside there was also someone making and frying up Moroccan doughnuts which the children loved.

Marcelona Restaurant

We ate dinner in the Marcelona Restaurant which served some Spanish style tapas and some Moroccan dishes.

There wasn’t much vegetarian on the menu but they were happy to adapt for me. We thought the food was good here but didn’t quite match up to the rest of the hotel experience.

Jamra Organic & Healthy Living

We also ate lunch in Jamra Organic & Healthy Living which was an interesting mix of quinoa burgers and fish dishes and a fantastic pizza oven. All in the setting by the pool.

There’s also a coffee shop for hot drinks and sweets which we didn’t eat in.

The Resort

The resort here is beautiful. I loved the sense of calm you get as soon as you enter with so much greenery and beautiful plants and lots of birdsong in the evening.

The hotel has collaborated with a number of artists which gives it a really cool vibe throughout with lots of art. We particularly loved spotting all the Banksy style street art around.

There is a great gift shop which uses famous and upcoming Moroccan artists and artisans to feature. The hotel also gives the space for free to the cooperative and takes no cut from any sales which I absolutely love.

Such a great way to give back and also give the opportunity of a showcase for local designers (and it really is packed full of some amazing things).

The Spa – Mövenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi

The spa is a lovely space towards the back of the resort.

It features the gold droplet of water that is seen throughout the hotel and is an air of tranquility.

Mr G had a deep tissue massage here and came back feeling revived and reinvigorated.

There is a yoga studio on site which has some wonderful facilities including aerobic yoga.

They also have children’s yoga sessions and my eight year old daughter went along and loved it. It’s a great benefit to the hotel to have this all onsite.

The Best Bits of Mövenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi Marrakech

For me Marrakech is a heady, noisy, wonderful blast of otherworldliness. I absolutely love the loud, chaotic nature of the main medina and surrounding areas but I loved having the Mövenpick to retreat into.

I think to have a luxury hotel in Marrakech to relax in is particularly beneficial when you’re travelling as a family.

There was such an air of tranquility, it was the perfect antidote to the craziness of the medina and lovely to have both.

One thing I particularly loved was the 5-6pm chocolate hour. Then a stand was set up in reception to come and eat complimentary chocolate.

We all loved this little ritual of our day when we would rush to chocolate hour to feast on a variety of chocolate biscuits, pieces and drinks and an accompanying glass of mint tea.

We felt so comfortable and well looked after here. For us it really allowed us to have the perfect mix of experiences on our family trip.

Worth Bearing in Mind – Mövenpick Hotel Mansour Eddahbi

There’s not a whole lot here to bear in mind, we didn’t find any hidden charges or unreasonable bills.

We did find concierge’s quote of taxis into the medina a little on the steep side (and managed to negotiate a third less ourselves) but otherwise it was all as it said.

Child Friendly?

This is an incredibly family friendly luxury hotel in Marrakech.

There’s a complimentary kids club which is open all day and they’ll even sort out lunch for the children.

The kids will love the pools and there’s also a small petting enclosure with rabbits and tortoises to the side of one of the pools which the children adored.

Children will love spotting all the different art work around the hotel and there are kids menus in all the restaurants.

This is the perfect hotel for a family trip, “one of the best hotels ever” declared the 11 year old and I couldn’t argue with him. We can’t wait to return.
