The best Morocco souvenirs – Shopping in Morocco: On our trip to Morocco we knew that the children would want to spend their hard-earned pocket money on a few souvenirs while we were there. We wanted to shop for presents to take home too. When you’re looking for what to buy in Morocco there is a huge amount of choice with most of the cities having souks spilling over with beautiful items. From shopping Marrakech malls to the calm and organised souks of Rabat there is something across the country for everyone looking to pick up souvenirs in Morocco. We travelled through the country by train and wanted to make sure we had enough souvenirs from Morocco to remember our trip by. We have rounded up our top souvenirs Morocco has for kids and adults. It probably goes without saying that you need to barter hard when you’re looking at things to buy in Morocco. Aim to pay about a third or less of the price that is initially quoted when shopping in the souks.

Carry your Morocco souvenirs home in beautiful woven bags
There are examples of basketry all over Morocco. And we loved the bags that were hung in many of the street stalls.
There were plenty of plain versions but also some with cherries embroidered on, pom poms or my daughter’s favourite, cacti.
They are a lovely reminder of a trip here and one of the best things to buy in Morocco when visiting.
Have countless games with a carved wooden chess set
Older children and adults will love the wooden chess sets available everywhere across the country.
From small pocket versions to larger ones with backgammon on the inside to clever twisting versions. They are a really nice souvenir from Morocco and you can find them in most of the souks.
Enjoy bagfuls of flavoursome olives
Morocco has lots of lovely pickled and oiled vegetables. In all of the town’s souks you will be able to find stalls selling them.
Pick up bagfuls of punchy roasted garlic, pickled chillis and the olives which come in a huge variety of types and stuffed with different ingredients.
They are amazing and the perfect item to buy as you hit the town, to keep fuelling your shopping trip.
Slip into something comfortable with Moroccan slippers
Moroccan slippers are found all over the country and are beautiful, colourful and some of the best souvenirs from Morocco to take home.
They are really reasonably priced (if you barter hard) and come in a whole variety of colours and styles.
We loved letting the children pick out their own slippers to take home for them to enjoy (you can get them in all sizes including for babies).
Perfect for books, a Hamsa Hand Bookmark – Morocco souvenirs
The hamsa hand or hand of Fatima is ubiquitous all across Morocco and is a lovely symbol to pick up.
We loved the Hamsa Hand bookmarks which we found at a number of stalls but picked our version up at the Henna Cafe in Marrakech which has a small gift shop.
The one we got was a metal bookmark with a hand on the end and a tassled ribbon to hang down over the back of the book.
My daughter can’t wait to take her book back in to school all bookmarked up.
Enjoy the colourful parachute toys
Jemaa el-Fnaa was lit up with street sellers selling these colourful little toys and I think they’re one of the really cool things to buy in Morocco. Particularly if you’re travelling with children.
Turn them on, attach them to the elastic band and pull back to let them fly high in to the sky before parachuting down again in a flash of colour.
These were so cheap to pick up and great fun for the kids to play with (the adults enjoyed them too).
Enjoy sticky, sweet baklava
When you’re looking for Morocco what to buy then baklava needs to be on your list. Even if it’s something to eat while you’re in the country.
Head to the food area of the souk and you will find these by the bowlful, being whipped up in big batches, often dripping in honey.
They are so tasty and with so many different varieties you might need to try a few stalls (just saying).
Scare your friends with a snake in a box – Morocco souvenirs
Jemaa el Fna is filled with snake charmers that should be avoided at all costs (it is so cruel to the poor snakes). But there are some brilliant snake in a box toys that kids will love.
It looks like an ordinary wooden box but pull open the drawer and the brightly coloured snake jumps out at you. Our seven year old bought his at one of the stalls just off Jemaa el Fna. But there were sellers approaching us in the main square itself too.
It’s a great item to take back for show and tell and talk about the snake charmers spotted in the city.
Spice up your life when shopping in Morocco
When you’re in Morocco things to buy can feel overwhelming as there are so many amazing items. But spices should be up there at the top of your shopping list.
Piled high at stalls throughout the country are pungent, colourful powders and spices to transform your cooking.
These are a wonderful item to buy by the bagful. And stallholders are often happy to discuss which each of the spices are and the best ingredients to pair them with.
Take home a tagine as one of the best Morocco souvenirs
If you’re in Morocco for any length of time it’s likely you’ll eat at least one tagine. If not many more.
They are the staple of the country.
When you’re looking at what to buy from Morocco taking home a tagine can be a lovely gift or present to yourself.
There are all kinds of varieties to pick up from beautiful artisanal ones to very cheap mass produced ones you’ll find in any souk. They are the perfect souvenir from the trip.
