Sometimes a restaurant will really live up to its reputation or even its ‘tag line’ and Margaritaville restaurant at City Walk, Universal Studios certainly does that. With its chilled out vibe and its motto of “it’s more than a restaurant…it’s a state of mind” we think Margaritaville is one of the best restaurants at Universal Orlando.
Based at one end of the bustling City Walk this is a lovely restaurant with lots to offer. There’s a huge number of choice when it comes to the type of vibe you want for your evening with a big indoor restaurant with music videos playing (Jimmy Buffet naturally) and a live music stage for a lively night out, or the slower paced relaxed terrace where you can listen to musicians playing acoustic guitar as you eat and watch the world drift by.
We grabbed a table near the edge of the outdoor terrace and the grown ups checked out the extensive and essential margarita menu. My blackberry margarita was perfectly sharp and tangy with tequila, orange liqueur and blackberry brandy.
Mr GM had a ‘5 o’clock somewhere’ which has to be the perfect cocktail name for dedicated globe trotters. Made with rum tequila and orange and pineapple juices it was the perfect accompaniment to the meal.
Margaritaville restaurant, City Walk, Universal, Florida – One of the best restaurants at Universal Orlando
We kicked off the meal with a good-sized appetiser of crispy battered onion rings which the children loved and I adored for their avocado ranch dressing.
We should have known by the name of the Volcano nachos to expect something extraordinary – It was HUGE. I think we might have been able to share it with everyone on the terrace. Nevertheless we had a good go at tackling it, complete with tortilla chips, cheese, beans, guacamole and jalapeños. It was so tasty and everyone tucked in.
The menu offers salads, burgers, a host of entrees and grilled sandwiches for mains. Mr GM thought the Crispy Coconut Shrimp served with a horseradish and orange marmalade dipping sauce was just right.
It was great to see that they had a special veggie menu and I ordered a plate of veggie tacos which were really good. I’d have loved more of a tangy dressing but they were really fresh and packed full of ingredients.
The kids loved their meals. They tucked in to fish and chips and mac and cheese and thought the food was great.
The children adored the kids packs that arrived, full of bendy straws to create their own creatures and models and which kep them occupied for ages.
There were also fun entertainers, like this amazing balloon model maker who was wandering around on stilts making whatever shape or animal the children desired.
For dessert we all ordered the house speciality of key lime pie which is made on the premises fresh each day and is there until it sells out. It was creamy and full of caramel and really good.
We loved Margaritaville, it was our favourite meal that we had at Universal and I can’t stop thinking about those volcano nachos and wishing I could have them again. We can’t wait to try out more of their locations across the US.
We were guests of Margaritaville Orlando but all opinions are our own.
