Sheraton Grand London Park Lane - our review of a family stay

A Family Stay at Sheraton Grand London Park Lane. London is magical in every season, and staying at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane added an extra layer of elegance to our winter city break. The hotelโ€™s prime location in Mayfair, overlooking Green Park, feels both luxurious and intimate. We absolutely love our family trips to London. We have a little pre-Christmas stay every year where we visit Harrods and Fortnums, take in Chinatown and a show and see the lights. Our visit this year, staying at the Sheraton gave us the perfect base for everything we love to do.

Sheraton Grand London Park Lane - our review of a family stay

The Sheraton Grand Park Lane has deep roots in Londonโ€™s grand hotel tradition. Park Lane itself has always been symbolic of luxury (always the square on the Monopoly board I wanted), and the Sheraton continues that heritage with style. The building combines classic architecture with modern comforts, offering a nod to Mayfairโ€™s past while catering to contemporary travellers. Over the years, this hotel has welcomed dignitaries, families, and business travellers alike, and it carries itself with a timeless sophistication that feels especially inviting when you enter the lobby. The marble floors, polished wood details, and soft lighting reflect a design ethos that respects tradition without feeling dated. I love the Art Deco feel throughout.

We stayed in a Park View Suite, and what a treat it was. The suite felt expansive – there was a calm, beautifully furnished bedroom with a super-king bed that was really comfortable. Large windows framed lovely views over Green Park, and we spent quiet moments watching runners and walkers in the early morning winter light, which was really peaceful. It was beautiful to look out on in winter but would look serene at any time of the year.

The lounge area was set up perfectly for our family. The hotel accommodated our children by placing two comfortable full-sized single beds in the living room – great for giving each of them space to sleep well without cramping. We made use of the dining area for evening board games and some time catching up on a little work in the room. A Nespresso machine sat ready for us each morning, and the kettle and minibar gave us helpful flexibility.

The bathroom: little luxuries

One of the highlights of the suite was the bathroom. It was stocked with Penhaligonโ€™s toiletries, which felt like a lovely indulgence. There was a great, relaxing bathtub, ideal for soaking, as well as a separate rainforest-style shower. That duality made it easy to choose exactly how we wanted to unwind each evening, whether after a big day exploring the city or before heading out in the cold.

We had access to the hotelโ€™s Club Lounge, and this became our sanctuary throughout the stay. It was warm, elegant, and quiet – a retreat from the busy streets of London. During our visit, we often sat there with a cup of tea or coffee, letting the children rest between sightseeing or reading in a comfy chair. The lounge staff were welcoming, and the ambience felt both exclusive and comfortable. In winter, having that space to warm up and relax made a huge difference to our trip. We loved the afternoon tea they had at 2pm each day – a really nice little treat full of scones, jam and clotted cream. If you wanted to you could also have breakfast here.

Food plays a big part in a stay at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane, and the hotel offers a lovely range of places to eat and drink. Whether you want an elegant dinner, a relaxed drink in the bar, or a quick snack before heading out into Mayfair, the hotel has it all. The lobby lounge is perfect for light bites, coffee, or afternoon treats, and the hotelโ€™s bar has an inviting, cosy feel in the evening.

Breakfast experience – Sheraton Grand London Park Lane

Breakfast at the Sheraton Grand was a highlight each morning. The buffet offered an impressive spread of both cold and hot foods. There were fresh pastries, a variety of breads, yoghurt, fruit, cereal, and juices alongside cooked favourites. The children delighted in freshly made berry-and-banana smoothies and chocolate pancakes, while we appreciated the variety of breads and the option to make our own hot breakfast from the cooked line.

For an additional charge, you could order ร  la carte dishes, which added a touch of flexibility and luxury. Whether you wanted a full English breakfast, eggs benedict, or a lighter option, the menu catered to both families and individuals.

Dinner at Mercante

Mercante, the hotelโ€™s signature Italian restaurant, offers a relaxed but stylish dining experience thatโ€™s ideal for both families and couples. There was a real mix there on the evening we visited. Inspired by the lively trattorias of Italy, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with friendly service and a menu that celebrates seasonal produce. It feels unpretentious yet thoughtful, and itโ€™s the sort of place where adults can enjoy something beautifully prepared while children still feel completely at ease.

The menu focuses on fresh ingredients and classic Italian flavours with a modern twist. There are pastas, pizzas, and meat and fish dishes, along with plenty of vegetarian options. Starters range from arancini to aubergine parmigiana. We also enjoyed main courses of risotto and fish.

We found the service genuinely warm. Desserts are worth saving room for too, with creamy panna cotta, indulgent tiramisu, and seasonal specialities. Dining at Mercante feels like a treat without being overly formal, making it a perfect way to end a day exploring London.

Looking out over Green Park

The hotelโ€™s location is one of its strongest points. Being on Park Lane means youโ€™re just a short walk away from Hyde Park, where the children could run, skate (depending on the season), or simply enjoy wide open space. From here, itโ€™s also easy to reach Mayfairโ€™s shops, museum districts, and iconic London landmarks by foot or tube.

Transportation is straightforward: the hotel is well-connected to public transport, with easy access to underground stations and buses. We found it simple to switch between sightseeing in central London and returning to the calm oasis of our hotel.

  • Spacious suite: Generous layout with enough room for kidsโ€™ beds without feeling cramped.
  • Club lounge: A peaceful retreat for rest, snacks, and drinks – perfect for family downtime.
  • Luxury bathroom: Dual bath and shower setup, and beautiful toiletries elevate the experience.
  • In-room amenities: Nespresso, minibar, and dining area give daily convenience.
  • Service: Staff were unfailingly polite, helpful, and great with children.

London - Piccadilly

Staying here makes it easy to mix going for a wander to take in the atmosphere with big London highlights.

We loved having a Sunday Mayfair walk. Funding nearby local parks, lovely cafes and beautiful neighbourhoods. We walked to Oxford Street and Carnaby Street, taking in Liberty and all the hustle and bustle of Regent Street.
