A taste of Norway with Freia chocolate

When you’re considering what to buy in Norway then definitely take home some Freia chocolate.
Freia was founded in 1889 and has gone on to become Norway’s sweetest creation.
Its most famous product is the Freia Melkesjokolade. Milk chocolate which is delicious and so creamy.
The company’s motto is Et lite stykke Norge translates as A little piece of Norway so some of their chocolate are the perfect souvenirs of Norway.
If you’re in the centre of Oslo then look out for the wonderful Freia sign by the Karl Johans Gate which lights up the whole area with its changing patterns.
Keep away the chills with a Norwegian scarf – best Norway souvenirs

Norway is known for its snowy winters which are beautiful but inevitably very cold.
I love the neck warmers which you can also pull up around the face for added warmth. They’re great for kids but they also have some lovely ones in adult sizes.
We found different ones all across the country and I wanted to collect them all. They work just as well for dreary January days in the UK and are great Norwegian souvenirs.
A taste of Norway with cinnamon buns
You can’t go to Norway and not eat cinnamon rolls, it really should be some sort of law.
They are delicious and quite unlike others from around the world.
There are a number of different versions – and I suggest trying quite a few, just to make sure you can find your favourite.
The most well known in Norway though is that by the baker W B Samson. There are a number of different outlets of W.B. Samson, including some at Oslo Airport. But as I say, it’s best to do research with cinnamon buns and visit a number of different Norwegian shops selling them and try a few.
Pick up your own troll – best Norway souvenirs

Trolls are very popular in Norway and there are a number of different versions and guises through popular culture.
You can also pick up your very own little troll at shops across the country.
They are often said to bring luck and if you’re looking for things to buy in Norway these should be on your list. They are the perfect gift from the country (plus lightweight to pack).
Keep your hands warm with a pair of mittens

Norwegian woolen wear is gorgeous and comes in a variety of different patterns and styles.
This has got to be one of the best souvenirs from Norway. It’s so practical and it’s always lovely to have items that you’re going to keep using and will remind you of time in this beautiful country.
Plus if anyone can keep your hands warm it’s Norway which has such freezing winters.
You’ll find gloves and mittens in many of the Norwegian gift shops. But take your time and shop around as there are a number of different styles and it can be hard to choose.
This is also a great contender if you’re looking for Norway gifts as it’s such a useful but beautiful present.
More sweet stuff with chocolate bombs

I call these chocolate bombs but the official title is Norwegian Kokosboller. These are a delicious sweet treat.
Chocolate covered marshmallow sprinkled in desiccated coconut these are one of my favourite things to pick up. You can find them in many Norwegian shops across the country.
They are a little fragile to bring home but if you’re out and about doing your Norwegian shopping then definitely look out for them as they’re very tasty.
A blanket to pull over the knees

Norway’s woolen wear has already been discussed with regard to its mittens but another real treat, if slightly pricier option, is to pick up a beautiful Norwegian blanket.
When you’re shopping Norway manages to pull you in and make you want to buy all of its beautiful souvenirs. But a blanket really is a great mini investment piece.
Sling it over the back of a sofa to wow your guests and have it to pull over cold toes through the winter months and remind you of beautiful Norway.
There are so many different versions it will be hard to keep a selection down to just one so definitely beware. They are quite lethal in terms of wanting to start a Norwegian blanket collection.
As far as Norwegian items go though this is the perfect souvenir.
Find fun candlestick holders – best Norway souvenirs

Norwegians are brilliant at using real candlelight to warm through their fierce winters and so it seems only fitting that along with that they have some great candlestick holders.
From beautiful porcelain to quirky, arty versions there is something for everyone. And it’s a brilliant gift to bring home and allow a little Norwegian warmth into your life this winter.
