You can’t visit The Netherlands without eating pancakes. They are practically the national dish. And there’s no better place than the Pancake Bakery Amsterdam. Just down the street from the Anne Frank House. If you’re looking for one of those experiences you have to have in the Netherlands, especially if you’re visiting with kids then stopping for pancakes has to be almost top of the list.

We visited it on our recent Spring trip to the Netherlands and its warm, cosy interior was the perfect refuge from the cold wind outside.
We immediately felt at home and happy to relax with some tasty pancakes.
Housed in a former 17th-century warehouse it is a lovely canal-side location to rest, eat and feel very happy.

The food
We started off with a savoury pancake. With goat’s cheese, pine nuts and honey which was amazing, and also a Dutch pancake with cinnamon ice cream, stroopwafel chunks, chocolate flakes and whipped cream.
The latter was so delicious but totally defeated me, I can’t believe how filling it was. It was a meal in itself and so tasty.

Children’s pancakes at The Pancake Bakery Amsterdam
The children’s pancakes from Pancake Bakery Amsterdam were really unexpected.
We ordered a surprise pancake, a princess pancake and a pirate pancake. They were big sugar pancakes with some sweets and a gift for each child on top according to the theme.
This was a major hit with our three.

We loved the Pancake Bakery Amsterdam and found it the perfect place to rest our feet and enjoy some fantastic food.
The menu is extensive with so many different flavours, both sweet and savoury. And I can’t wait to return to try a different one.
