With so much to do in Kuala Lumpur you’ll need to be on high energy the whole time. So the perfect antidote to city life can be found about an hour away at Avani Sepang along the coast. Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort, Malaysia – Hotel and Location

The Avani Sepang is located on an area called the Goldcoast. A stretch of sand and sea on the west coast of Malaysia.
The nearest small town is about 10 minutes away so the hotel is pretty isolated. But that is also one of its strengths.
The Avani is a collection of over-water villas. Set on stilts on the shallow warm waters of the Malacca Straits in the shape of a palm tree.
The villas range from one bedroom to three bedrooms. On-site there are also a number of restaurants, an infinity pool, gym, a kids club and a private beach with water sports.
The hotel also offers tours around the local area and a free shuttle into Kuala Lumpur.
Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort, Malaysia – Sleeps:
We stayed in one of Avani’s two-bedroom villas which was absolutely beautiful.
It was completely detached and set out to sea on huge stilts.
Featuring gorgeous hardwood floors and a thatched roof that was exposed in the living area inside. It really was one of those places that make you say “wow” as soon as you walk in.
The villa had a central living area with sofas, television and windows out to the sea.
There was a study which has to be one of the most inspiring places in the world to sit and write, again just looking out to sea.
And there was a twin bedroom for the children that was big enough for all three.
We had a main bathroom.
Then a master bedroom with a large double bed with windows in two directions out to the sea. It was so nice to pull back the curtains to the sea each morning.
There was also a lovely dressing area with large wardrobes which then led through to a fantastic bathroom with thatched roof. This had a great rainforest-style shower and a separate sunken bath.
Food
We ate at two of Avanis restaurants.
The first at Sepoi-Sepoi which had Malaysian food. They were great at helping to create some vegetarian dishes for us.
The children really enjoyed the egg fried rice, while we dug into a great veggie curry and a vegetarian version of Char kuay teow.
The spring rolls should also not be missed.
We also had a big Chinese feast at Hai Sang Lou. Here we enjoyed a peanut satay tofu, delicious noodles and deep-fried courgette ‘fries’ which the children couldn’t get enough of.
We also ate breakfast at Avani Sepang and they had a good spread with lots of variety. This included pastries and fruits, cereals and local Malaysian dishes too.
I loved that they had a chef cooking up Chinese noodles and another creating egg dishes. Although this wasn’t my favourite meal as there were a number of flies around (which we didn’t notice at any other meal) and service seemed much slower.
The Best Bits of Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort
We loved the sense of relaxation at the Avani Sepang. It was wonderful to fall asleep to the sounds of the sea and to spend days on the beach or relaxing by the infinity pool.
The villa was gorgeous and it was a really luxurious space to hang out in.
Worth Bearing in Mind
Because of the nature of the Avani Sepang being a destination resort, there is not a lot on offer immediately outside of the resort.
None of the local restaurants are really geared up for tourists, so you will have to plan ahead if you want to visit further other places of interest.
Prices can build up as a result. And there are some costs associated with extras like the kids club (although it was an amazing kids club) and also some of the activities around the resort. So all worth keeping in mind when you look at your budget.
Child Friendly?
The Avani Sepang is definitely child friendly. The kids club was the best we came across in Malaysia with fantastic batik painting which really is so good that we have framed them at home so a great souvenir of the trip.
They also made coloured sand vials to bring home and painted little animals out of stones.
If the children wanted to they could have just played as they have a good-sized play area with a ball pool and lots of games, drawing etc.
The children also enjoyed the beach area which has a small bouncy castle and you can also take canoes out.
There was another activity area which had go-karts and other activities but because of the associated cost we didn’t try this out.
But if you wanted to it was all there to keep your child occupied.
Our three also really loved hanging out in the lovely, warm pool.
We really enjoyed out time relaxing at the Avani Sepang. It’s the perfect beach hotel near Kuala Lumpur.

Oh Wow, it looks amazing. Not sure I would feel comfortable with small children staying in those beach huts though
I can see that it might not look safe but actually it was perfectly so and no way they could just fall in! The rooms are all properly secure and all the walkways had high sides so you could see the water and feel it all around but not once did we feel anyone was unsafe.
My boys would LOVE to stay in the cabins over the water. I have never been to a destination resort

Wow and wow. You would never think that luxury over water villas could combine with family-friendly, but this looks just the ticket. I would love to stay here. Paradise.
This looks so relaxing – and I would never have thought overwater villas could be good with kids, but that’s so tempting! A shame about all the extra costs, but sounds worth it.
