The Lake District is made up of areas from the counties of Cumberland, Lancashire, Yorkshire and Westmorland. Places we love in the Lake District –

  • Lakeside fun on Windermere โ€“ Take a boat ride across Lake Windermere from Bowness or Ambleside. Kids love being out on the water, and itโ€™s a relaxing way to see the landscape. Donโ€™t miss the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam Railway right by the southern pierโ€”ideal for train-lovers.
  • The World of Beatrix Potter โ€“ Located in Bowness-on-Windermere, this charming attraction brings Peter Rabbit and friends to life with interactive displays, story-themed exhibits and a lovely garden. Great for younger children. Find out more here.

  • Animal attractions โ€“ The Lake District Wildlife Park near Bassenthwaite is home to meerkats, zebras, reptiles and birds of prey. Kids can also get close to animals at Walby Farm Park (a little further north but worth it for a full day out).
