Legoland Dubai – our review

Sunny, happy days at Legoland Dubai - our review

Sunny, happy days at Legoland Dubai – our review.

It’s fair to say we love Legoland. My youngest son, who is five, asks nearly every week if we can go. When we finally made it to one of the parks, Legoland Florida, last year and I was so happy he finally got to go, we got in the car and he said, “when can we go to Legoland again?”. I wanted to hit my head against the dashboard.

I get why he loves it so much though. It’s a great park, particularly for his age group (and for my other two kids who are eight and 10).

So when I announced we were off to Legoland Dubai all three of them jumped for joy.

If you’re looking for Legoland Dubai reviews then read on for what we really thought of our time there.

The two parks

We started off at the Legoland Water Park which is a separate park but you can buy a ticket for the two together.

If you have time I’d definitely recommend doing a day in each.

When we visited, just outside of the main UK Easter school holidays and mid-week, it was so unbelievably quiet. I’d have felt annoyed if we’d had the fast passes as there was little chance to use them.

We easily managed to do both parks in one day.

Miniland – Legoland Dubai

Legoland Dubai is a fairly compact park but it manages to really pack a punch. This begins with the mini-land which is the best mini-land I’ve been to.

Under cover, which was very welcome in the baking heat, there were lots of classic sights from all across the region recreated in LEGO form.

Some of our favourites were the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi, The Pyramids and Sphinx in Egypt.

And Petra in Jordan.

Petra

Lots of it was interactive so the kids loved racing about and making the scenes come to life. A favourite included making the snakes dance in the snake charmer’s basket outside the Taj Mahal.

Miniland is always fun to see in every Legoland we’ve been to but I thought it was fantastic at Legoland Dubai. The sheer scale of some of the creations was incredible.

Submarine Adventure land

We decided to head out of Miniland and travel around the park in a clockwise direction which is a good way to see it. Although make sure you leave time for all of the fun stuff in LEGO City. We slightly ran out of time here and would have benefited from having a full day at this park alone.

We started off at Submarine Adventure land which we have seen before at Legoland Windsor.

This version felt much shorter and with much less to see. But the kids still enjoyed seeing the colourful fish and the underwater LEGO creations.

It’s a really good first ride as well.

Lost Kingdom Adventure – Legoland Dubai

We then headed to Lost Kingdom Adventure which had absolutely no queue so we walked straight on. All three of our children loved this laser shooting ride around where you pick out targets to see who gets the highest score.

There are places in Adventure land, like all over the park, to pick up food and snacks as you go.

Imagination World

We headed straight on to Imagination World where unfortunately we’d just missed the hourly showing for the 4D show. That’s something to come back for as my daughter was really keen to watch it.

There’s a great Duplo play area here for younger kids which is all under cover and also a brick building area for older kids.

Mr Globalmouse took our three on the LEGO Technic Twister here. Legoland’s version of spinning cups which make me so dizzy I always opt to be the photo-taking member of the family, watching from the sidelines.

Kingdoms – Legoland Dubai

We wandered in to Kingdoms here which I think is my favourite looking area. With its castles and soldiers dotted about. We even came across a LEGO figure for a photo opportunity.

I couldn’t persuade anyone to ride on The Dragon with me, Legoland Dubai’s main roller coaster which looked like a perfect introduction to roller coasters for younger children.

Everyone was very happy to stop for some amazing Granny Apple Fries which I first spotted in Florida and have been desperate to try ever since.

Needless to say these cinnamon coated, cream dipping apple bites were as delicious as they looked.

LEGO City – Legoland Dubai

We then headed to LEGO city where everything got a bit snarled up.

Rescue Academy

We decided to do the Rescue Academy which we’ve seen before at other Legoland parks but never had the opportunity to do because of the queues. As Legoland Dubai was so quiet we thought it was the perfect time to try this ride out where you get to jump on the fire trucks, work together as a family to move it up the street and then put out a ‘fire’ with the water hose.

I don’t know what was going on the day we visited but the person running it was just filling up two (of the six) fire trucks at a time.

With people using their fast passes to get on the ride it meant that the queue was barely moving and even though we were so close to the front after twenty minutes we decided to abandon the ride. We are still waiting for our chance to try Rescue Academy.

Driving School – Legoland Dubai

The older two then did the Driving School which they love. You get to drive a car around a concourse with traffic lights and stop signs. It’s fairly short but they really love it.

Boating School

Then came for hold up number two when we started queuing up for the Boating School. As with the Rescue Academy the line just didn’t move.

With fast track ticket holders getting on and the boats keeping on stopping we waited and waited before deciding to abandon this ride too.

As we walked away I did think it didn’t look like we were missing out on much as the ride wasn’t as imaginative as other boat rides we’ve taken at other Legoland parks, literally just going around in a circle so I was quite pleased we skipped a long wait for it.

What did we think of Legoland Dubai

The sun was now starting to set so we decided to head out of the parks and in to the shops lining the road out which the children always love to look in to.

The last couple of disappointments in LEGO City aside we had a brilliant day at Legoland Dubai. We all left feeling that it was the perfect day out with kids, particularly teamed with the Legoland Water Park.

It probably helped that the sun was shining, but not too much and the queues were (in general) super small. I think it’s our favourite Legoland out of Windsor, Florida and Denmark.
